Katrina Amon – Gurrill
The Land Curlew is a sacred bird amongst our tribe because it warns us of danger. During the daytime if we are walking through the bush on Country and we hear a Curlew calling out it warns us that there may be people around.
At night time the bird comes to our people and calls out a very sorrowful, mournful cry for three nights then we know someone in our tribe is going to pass and taken onto the spirit world.
This is my Gurrill, and you may know it as The Bush Curlew.
